As the lifeless body of 2016 heads feet first out of the door, it leaves a lot of questions in its wake. Chiefly, what the f--- is going on? And secondly, how can we make 2017 a better, more productive and positive year?
I've been running The All Night Listening Post for over a year now and its been one hell of a year. I'll admit, the whole thing has been a sharp and steep learning curve. I've written at length about my frustrations with blogging and it seems like many of my contemporaries have similar feelings. In an industry that creaks under the pressure of insidiously high follower counts there's a few good people striking out with new ways of making relevant and engaging content. There are brands that understand the value of this way of working too. These are the folk I'll be working with in 2017.
As we head into the New Year, I'm optimistic and happy to say that The All Night Listening Post is settling in to it's groove nicely. As the site has grown, I've become increasingly interested in connecting with the people behind the brands. I've enjoyed learning about their journeys and their processes and helping them to tell their stories to new audiences.
This year I'll be creating a lot more original content, especially photography and even some films hopefully. I'll be collaborating with new and exciting names, both big and small. The core focusses will still be the same - menswear, design, adventure and gear. There'll be a more creative and considered approach to the work I'm doing though. Proper projects with soul and grit that turn the well-worn conceit of a blog post upside down.
Thanks to the Do Lectures, Gather Outdoors and the With Love Project, I've been introduced to great people who have become fast friends. I'm hoping that by working together we can make a stronger, more cohesive community where big ideas are born and status quos are challenged. As I look back on the past year, it really feels like we're on the edge of something new and exciting. The game is changing.
Despite recent musings, The All Night Listening Post is still a blog, and will continue to operate as one in the way it always has. I firmly believe that this site should be a place to celebrate two of my great passions: Good Things and Good People.
I'm excited by the opportunities 2017 will bring and look forward to sharing them with you all in the coming year.
Happy New Year & Keep Listening.
